Just got back from the track. My best time was a 13.06 @ 107 MPH. That's .48 seconds quicker and 4.5 MPH faster than my best stock time of 13.54 @ 103.3! Here are the specifics:

R/T - .612
60' - 2.011
330' - 5.532
1/8 - 8.468
MPH - 85.07
1000' - 10.780
1/4 - 13.063
MPH - 107.72

I also ran a 13.16, a 13.21 and a 13.40 ( very first run).

As you can see by my shabby 60' time, I'm still having a hard time coming out of the hole. I spin too much even when using Launch Control since I can't vary the rpm. Oh well, even with this weak spot I still love SMG.:D

Anyway, I'm pretty stoked. I would have *loved* to have broke into the 12's, but unless I get a better launch or use better rubber out back, it isn't going to happen.

Hey cool, thanks for the times. I someday will have to take mine to the track, and see what I can do with a stick!

Congrats, cool to see the improving times. I have the same mods except for software which i am doing next week. My car feels faster, can't wait for the software.

Holy SH*T!!!! that is nice. if you had a stick you would be in the 12's!!!! 107 MPH is moving. You increased usable HP by 40+ That is pretty impressive. I will run mine after the gizmo and Borla and see if it improves. Since the LC only allows a certain RPM, have you thought about gears? 3.91 from Dinan, just might be the answer to the sub 2.0 60ft. A tenth off the 60ft is usually 2 tenth off the final ET. A 1.9 60ft should put you in the 12's. Costly for gears, but what other options are there for getting out of the hole with more torque? Good runs!!!

Nice job Scott. According to my calculations your ET should be 12.67 if you could get a perfect launch. That also correlates to 322 HP at the wheel. I guess the mods and weight saving was worth it.:D

Mathews had 12.72. But he was a pro driver or something..
13.06 is fast as ****... Congrats!

Fantastic! Here's something to try...

I've read some reports about iridium plugs (Denso and NGK) that were not too flattering. You might try going back to OEM for your next track event and see if that makes any difference.

Nice!

Get some 3:91's!! I think you would be able to break the 12's even with the launch.

Donho - Yep, I was thinking the same thing about the gears, but I think when I get my new and wider rubber in the back, that will help out a lot as well. I'm not really liking what I've read about the 3.91 gears so far. I'm pretty happy with the gearing in the car now, so I think I'll stay stock in that area. Plus, the drag racing in the M will be happen rarely from now on. As much fun as it is, I primarily used it a gauge to check the performance increases from my mods. Once I get my suspension I want to try my hand at Autocrossing next.:D

MattMan - The fastest 1/4 mile time (and the only one I know of in the 12's) was one by Mathews. He ran a 12.72 in his stock 6-speed! He's also about as good of a drag racer as you can find. The fastest time for a regular SMG car I've found..modded or unmodded..is a 13.4. That was a stock SMG car in a magazine I read about a while back. All the other times I've have seen have been 13.5 and above. The fastest time for the CSL I saw was a 13.7 @ 107, but I don't think they were using LC. If they had been, it would have been in the low 13's for sure.

Alex - You and I are probably calculating close to he same. I think I probably added app. 30-35 *real* hp to the rear wheels, putting me at 305-310. Then, I reduced my overall weight app. 120 lbs, giving me the *equivalent* of an extra 12 hp to the rear wheels. Using the rule of thumb that says every 10 rwhp added to your car (via weight or actually power to the wheels) equates to a 10th second faster 1/4 mile, my .48 second reduction seems to correlate very closely to this.

Ron - MPilot over on Bimmerforums got a 3 rwhp increase from his Denso Iridium plugs. He first went with new, stock plugs and a did an dyno. He got a slight rwhp increase from that simply due to the fact that his old stock plugs were getting worn. After that, he switched to the Densos and did another dyno. He got 3 more rwhp from the new, stock plugs. I don't now if they're doing the same for me, but I would imagine (hope) they probably are.

Scott: Here are a couple of on-line calculators that may help.

Congrats Scott... but everyone knows that the S54 has all the power squezzed out of it and it's impossible to make more power! :D

This is interesting. I am stock. All options except 19 inch wheels and smg.

I usually can run 13.2 @ 106mph repeatable during this cool autumn weather..

Nice runs Scott. Next spring you and I ought to meet up for a little drag. Put the SMG vs 6MT debate to rest, haha.

Why is it interesting? You have a manual. 13.2 is not impressive for a manual.

smg is that much slower in the 1/4 mile huh?

Divexxtreme

The fastest a magazine has ever ran a 6-MT in the 1/4 is 13.1. Normally it's 13.2 or so. The fastest a mag has ever ran a SMG car is 13.4. Normally it's 13.5 or 13.6. The fastest *ever* stock M3 1/4 mile time that I'm aware of is 12.72 in a 6-MT from a poster on this forum. For an explanation of why SMG is slower in the 1/4. Read this thread:

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18163&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

Regardless of which type of tranny you have, getting a half second quicker 1/4 mile time from mods is very significant for our cars.

Thats awesome Scott!

Glad to see how much you've improved since you tracked/timed your M when it was stock.

Very impressive!

why would he want 3.91 gears when he has 4.10 gears...

4.10s are shorter and mainly the reason for having 13.0 times. 3.91 would be digressing.

Look at the date of this thread, it's quite old. I posted in it because I was looking for the fastest stock smg time ever and I knew Divexxtreme was the one who had it.
