Driving today in my 98 M3 the engine started to stutter (felt like a fuel problem) I pulled over and as I was the engine light came on. Turned car off checked to make sure no oil or coolant problems, started car back up let it run and it was fine (with engine light still on)

Called the dealer they said 98% of the time the engine light comes on because of a air pocket in the tank or fuel line. I find this hard to believe, but it did feel like a fuel problem. I need to get the fault codes checked and see what the story is, but I need to drive it to get to the place. Any thoughts?

Don't know how common it is but the CE light will come on if the gas cap doesn't seal properly.

Don't worry about driving it, minor stumbles are nothing to worry about. If it's a major problem the light will flicker. - Beau

I have a euro 95 M3, which started to stutter. It happened right after filling up, which made me think I'd put in the wrong fuel, but it turned out to be the ignition pack/coil for one of the cylinders. Im awaiting the bill!.
