So I've read many posts and I can't decide whether to get the DICE or the Genuine BMW IPOD adapter fro my 2005 M3 no/Nav. I just got off the phone with my BMW dealer here in Chicago and the guy told me of a 2nd generation IPOD adapter coming out that will display the song on the radio display. I know that before this was the advantage to getting the DICE. What do you guys think? Does anyone own the 2nd generation IPOD adapter?

The BMW kit and DICE have the same core functions (steering wheel/radio control), iPod charging and direct iPod connection), the DICE goes a bit further in features:
- Text display on your radio or navigation display
- unlimited Playlists (BMW kit is limited to only 5)
- ability to browse by song, album or Playlist
- Full control of iPod's Clickwheel (BMW kit locks out the wheel)
- Retains display on iPod (BMW kit places a logo in place)
- Integrated AUX input
- All iPod features are still functional (highest rated songs, play count, on-the-go playlists, etc)
Hope this helps. :)

I recently got the DICE with HD radio from Tom and am very pleased with it. It works great. Not only does the DICE have awesome features, but it also is cheaper.

So Tom would you recommend the DICE with HD or just the regular one? also how good is the quality of the cables used in the DICE vs the genuine BMW setup?

I have the DICE in both my E46 M3s & just got the BMW Integrated Ipod in our X5. So far the only issues I've had with the DICE has been I get this static and sometimes having to redo the CD settings on the NAV to show the song/artist on the screen. BUT, I'm pretty sure it only happens when my Ipod battery is low. As for the BMW one in the X5, we are having some issue with our Ipods locking up. When I put them on my Ipod player in my office, the Ipod is locked with the BMW logo but still plays. Once I connect the Ipod to the computer, it unfreezes. BMW tech checked it out & told me to check the software version we have on the Ipod. But I updated & still have the same problem. Also we are using the 80 gig Ipods & not sure if that is causing issues with the BMW IPod. I have a feeling if it isn't fixed soon, I'll be taking the BMW one out & getting another DICE for the X5.

the HD DICE would be recommended if you are looking to add High Definition radio to your BMW also. The qualify of the cables are the same as BMW.

Tom, I'm sorry I'm a bit confused. Do you have to install the dice to the cd changer in the trunk? or can you connect the dice directly to the back of the head unit. I would hate to start unscrewing my sport seats and all that jazz.
Thanks!

We have both - depending on what installation procedure you prefer:
DICE iPod Integration Kit for BMW

DICE iPod Integration Kit for BMW (Radio Interface R17)

Most installers prefer the radio installation kits since there is no cable routing - both interfaces are the same as far as features go.
