View Full Version : Porsche Turbo Vs M3 cab
__RHINO1__ Sat, Oct-25-2003, 04:55:15 PM Well I ran into one of these, but the guy couldn't pull away from me. I wasn't even trying that hard. Maybe he just had a body kit on his car, but it was a turbo look. He was trying for sure as he exhaled a ton of exhaust to try to pull away.
Then mr 300z poor lad didn't have the balls to corner like me and I left him behind too.
The Cab hauls ass despite the 300 extra punds for the top.
Kevin034 Sat, Oct-25-2003, 04:58:19 PM Before Harold reads this thread, I want to tell you that he's going to make fun of you.
A 996 TT will hand the M3 (coupe or conv) it's ass back on a silver plate. Easily. Heck, I am even confident that the driver of the 996 won't have to redline NOR full throttle to kick our asses.
It's a 996 modded to look like a TT. Then again, even if it's a 996 ... a M3 conv would have a heck of a time beating it. Perhaps it a earlier model, or the TT body kit is weighting it down.
Or, the driver just can't drive. But, none-the-less, the 996TT is a MONSTER.
Topaz M3 Chibi Sat, Oct-25-2003, 05:02:51 PM if it was a 996TT he was sleeping
jamie Sat, Oct-25-2003, 06:10:17 PM I sold my M3 in July and I'm picking up an '01 996tt on Monday. The others are correct. The M3 is quick but the turbo is ferocious.

I hate you. I am so jealous.
Rob's Archive Sat, Oct-25-2003, 06:29:07 PM it could have been a Carerra C4S...that looks the part of the 911 but without the extra 70+ hp
Topaz M3 Chibi Sat, Oct-25-2003, 06:37:47 PM it prolly was a C4S...ive kept up with a few before- but i doubt that the driver was going all out all the time like i was
suMMMit Sat, Oct-25-2003, 06:41:04 PM Hmmmm... "racing" a 2004 Cab before 1200 service. Amazing story -- outgunning a TT without exceeding 5500 rpm. THAT truly is an amazing kill.
__RHINO1__ Sat, Oct-25-2003, 07:12:17 PM No Summit you are amazing.
Can I have your autograph? oh wait your no one

Hey, Rhino, seriously, summmit brings up a good point. In previous posts, you said that you just got the car this thursday, so ... you broke the 5500 rpm rule already?
Can you give more details on this race? What rpm did you shift at? How fast did you guys end up going? I know for sure that the 996 would've taken you up beyond 3 digits, which is not really safe before the break-in period.

Quoting for references.
__RHINO1__ Sat, Oct-25-2003, 07:21:00 PM It wasn't like we dragged for more than 200-300 feet and mostly it was a winding road so less power more cornering.
We were already going so it wasn't a 0-60 8000 rpm type situation. I've been real good about 1-3rd gears keeping the rpm's around the 5500 range
Kevin034 Sat, Oct-25-2003, 07:27:05 PM I wouldn't say then that the 996 is trying hard, w/ the exhaust smoke and all. If the M3 was limited at 5500 rpms, a 996 at WOT will destroy it.
As for the cornering and curves, any stock 996 will take the M3 cab. Any corner, any time. Since you said that this was a TT, so I am assuming that it's a coupe, not a cab. Even if it's the slowest of slows 996, it would've still cornered faster.
Minte Sat, Oct-25-2003, 08:27:51 PM I have an M3 and a 911TT,there is no possible way the M3 will stay with the porsche. The M3 will give the non-turbo 911 a run though.

Maybe later tonight. :D
m3again Sat, Oct-25-2003, 08:53:13 PM I got "smoked" by a 330Ci today. I was in my 996C2. I pulled away from the light at my normal medium pace. The 330 next to me did a full drop launch. I wasn't paying attention to him at the light (still admiring my full leather interior), so I was really surprised. I stayed with him just for fun, but kept 2-3 car lengths back in case he did something stupid like switch lanes abruptly. I did close the gap from the launch pretty quickly, so I was at 70-80% throttle for a couple of seconds but then I eased off and kept the 2-3 car distance. When we hit 95 I backed off completely.
So I guess on e46fanatics or somewhere will be the awesome kill story "I wasted a Porsche 911."

Oh christ ... don't get me started on the E46fanatics forum.
Still though, back to this story, it just doesn't make sense.
Rhino - If you are so sure that the 996 is at WOT, and we know that you didn't exceed 5500 rpms, AND we know that 996 will corner with the M3. How did this ever happen?!
Topaz M3 Chibi Sat, Oct-25-2003, 09:15:35 PM e46 fanatics has too many kid's and wanabes for me
__RHINO1__ Sat, Oct-25-2003, 09:28:03 PM lol you guys go on and on.
I'll be it was a regular 911 with a turbo body kit. I was there and "he did not pull away from me" and he knew I was on his ass. End of story. I never said I passed the guy and smoked him. Perhaps he wasn't trying that hard, it was a winding road.
The stats say that yes a 911 turbo would kick my ass off and make me eat it. You guys are taking this thread a bit too serious.
Perhaps we should let this one die and go back to talking about our NAVs.

Eh ... problem w/ the avatar. She's a victorias secret model, no naked pics. I'll ask her if she is willing to pose for me naked, but no promises.
Minte -
__RHINO1__ Sat, Oct-25-2003, 09:44:53 PM LOL the acid is great. Actually **** on the fumes right out of the pipe that works too.
Did I say twin turbo? man this story is growing. Maybe next it will be a Skyline souped up to 1000hp.
suMMMit Sat, Oct-25-2003, 09:52:21 PM Elvis has left the building. Now we can drop it (not the acid -- the thread).
gnk2727 Sun, Oct-26-2003, 01:22:13 AM I think rhino was exaggerating a little bit.
gnk2727 Sun, Oct-26-2003, 01:26:10 AM I think today rhino became Pinocchio???
