View Full Version : Lowering Questions..
1flossedm3 Thu, Jul-26-2007, 03:46:58 PM Hi All,
Curious on the proper parts needed to lower my M3. I'm going to do the RTAB as well, along with anything else I need to replace that may have gotten old in there.
Do I need to do coilovers or will springs do the trick? I only want a one inch drop or so.. I dont want to lose what decent ride I still have.:agree:
I know I'll need an alignment as well.
KG Thu, Jul-26-2007, 06:34:15 PM if you don't track and don't want to slam the car,
shock/spring combo will be fine.
also get some rsm as well.
there are tons of info here, search it.
johnhk79 Thu, Jul-26-2007, 07:55:54 PM Eibach springs + Koni shocks should be fine. Most ppl get Powerflex RTABs.
VazM3 Thu, Jul-26-2007, 08:24:40 PM If you're just using the car around town. Just get springs.
///Malicious Thu, Jul-26-2007, 08:30:19 PM even around town, i would still go coilovers :)
Boosting1Bar Thu, Jul-26-2007, 08:34:16 PM Eibach springs are great for a slight drop and maintained ride quality. I've had mine one for a while and still love it. Perfect drop for daily use.
bmrlvr Thu, Jul-26-2007, 10:49:04 PM I wonder what could be done to the suspension, but retaining the same ride height? In other words - no lowering. I drive a convertible.
Appreciate all expert advices only.

so you want your car to feel like you are riding on air? Ditch the M3 and get a Lexus LS
Keith_m3-4 Fri, Jul-27-2007, 12:07:49 AM how many miles on those shocks? anymore than 25k.. I would say just get it done.. those stock dampers are pretty cheap..

Koni shocks
GJGM3 Fri, Jul-27-2007, 12:56:25 AM Coilovers for sure. If you want an inch drop you don't want Eibach - least drop of any spring (or there about). Also if you want this for a drop with springs then get a good set of dampers like Koni SA. Prior to my KWv2 coilovers I had a set of Tein S Tech. They dropped the car by 1.5" front and 1.3" rear. The drop was close to slammed and so was the ride quality. I installed without replacing the f/r dampers and didn't listen to the good advice of many. A few weeks later I ordered a set of Koni SA and had to do another install. Worse still, less than 6 months later I dumped the entire setup and bought my coilovers and I'm happy with them. KWv2 are progressive springs and not only have one of the best ranges for lowering, but are great for comfort although anything slammed is going to sacrifice ride quality.
I think H&R springs are probably going to do it for you for the drop you want. Good luck.
Fury Fri, Jul-27-2007, 01:50:29 AM Also, if your going to do springs and shocks make sure you get some new RSM.

Yup! I started out with Turner RSM and changed out for a from Ground Control. Several other good brands on the market.
cupspeed Sun, Jul-29-2007, 09:17:32 PM Coilovers for sure. KW Variant 2 is what I stayed with. Had the PSS9 prior
Get Rogue Rear Shock Mounts with the KWs

mrtt Mon, Jul-30-2007, 01:06:50 AM any particular brand RSM do you guys recommend?
NickkoM3 Mon, Jul-30-2007, 01:50:16 AM If you want just a little drop and just for "Show" Just go with the Cheapest way and thats with Springs! I think with any maker you can get about an inch or so on springs. Teins have the most drop. RTABS are a good thing to change as they fail very fast especially if you have suspenion! You should be fine with any brand springs for what your looking for!

If it's in your budget, get KW coilovers and Rogue RSMs. KW or PSS9s will maintain a better ride than GC or TCK. Conversely, GC and TCK are a better performance option because the linear springs provide consistency throughout the entire suspension travel. With lowering springs you have no control over your ride height. If you go with lowering springs and shocks and find out you're not happy, you'll just end up spending a lot more to get to the same place.
We carry KW, Bilsteins, RE RSMs are in our inventory and we also sell a LOT of GC, if you change your mind that performance is more important than your ride.
