Hi Dorian,

I just test registered with this name. If you want, you can try again by going to this link

Regarding the popping, I have not had this...I had a rough idle..does the popping happen with a unsteady rpm? I do get some popping sound when im downshifting sometimes. If it is the rough idle, alot of people seem to have this. Mine went away after about 900 miles.

The exhaust resonance is common but I have not heard of it happening at idle...most have been around 3000rpm. I will say that the E46 M3 sound has a metallic nature to it...kind of unusual but I think it's normal.

As long as you've documented the issues with the dealer, I probably wouldnt worry too much about it as long as it's not affecting driveability. I have found some of my issues went away with miles.

As I am sure some of you are aware, I have had alot of issues with my M3's. But BMWNA and the dealership were ultimately very good about making sure things were resolved to my satisfaction. Just make sure you document everything.

I know this didnt help with resolving your issues but I hope it will give you somewhat peace of mind knowing that BMW is very good about standing behind their products. You're covered with the 36k comprehensive plus the 50k warranty so I would just enjoy the car as you normally would.

My M3 Cabrio´s exhaust also rattles if i rev it a bit as soon as I turn the engine on, however once everything is heated up... no problems at all...

By the way, what has broken is my piece of rubber that seals the back of the hood to the chassis... this peice of rubber goes all the way round the back of the hood and has broken where it joins the main pillar...

apparently different to normal cabs, being built in m- factory.

cab hood is perfectly fine now, took for days in bmw to correct!.

I've not had problems with the exhaust, but i am getting a rough idle in the mornings when the car hasn't been driven for a while (sometimes the engine even just shuts off). I this what you guys are experiencing? It's quite embarrasing when i'm trying to show off my car and it won't even start up smoothly in the parking lot! :0
