Hello All.
I have a '02 E46 that is giving me major greif, transmission wise.
When I turn on the ignition, my brake pedal will not depress and therefore, will now allow the tranny to change from 1st into nuetral, so I can start the car. While this is happening, I get the little "gear" icon with an exclamation mark in it, on the lower right corner of the dash.
If I try to start it about 30 times, at some point, it will release and allow me to get it out of 1st, into nuetral to start it.
It's now at the dealer, and they're telling me the diag says there is a problem either with the relay, or the pump. They replaced the relay and the symptoms went away, the car started, changed gears etc. The irony is, they put the old relay back in and it also started and changed gears just fine again. They're saying, if it's not the relay, it's likely the pump? Strange that it doesn't seem to have any problems, when I'm driving it. It seems to change gears flawlessly.
It's a little frustrating, that even with the problem obviously at hand, they can't diagnose what the issue is, withoug swapping parts?
I've read about similar problems to this online, but not as widespread, as some of those posts would like you to beleive.
Anyone have experience with this problem, and a guaranteed fix? (even if it has to be a new $2800 pump!!!!!!!!!
