Yesterday I received a letter from BMW in regards to a recall. It said (if I remember correctly) that the bolts that attach the emergency brake cable to its drums in the rear, may have not been torqued to spec. I was wondering if anyone else got this leter.
Apparentely its for '01 models only.

Regards,

I have an 01 m3 convertible, and i too recieved a recall letter yesterday. But, when i went to my local BMW dealership to shedule an appointment this morning, they thaught i was bringing it in to have the cooling fan replaced. Apparantley that was the first recall, which i hadnt recieved a letter for. Make sure they check if your car needs that done to it too.

I too got the recall. Mine is an 01 coupe. I think the cooling fan thing was for early 01 build dates. Also, the door seals on the coupes are national recalled due to the adhesive that doesnt hold it in place. My driver door seal was hitting the door panel. They used a rubber malet and knocked it back.

For those who have not received the recall yet, the recall campaign no. is 01V-245, Parking Brake Cable Attaching Screws.

I have not heard anything on the cooling fan.

Also, I think everyone should be running 10W60 now...if not, you should definitely check with the dealer.

Pull the ebrake up slowly, count the number of clicks before you can't pull up anymore.

Then, jack the rear end of the car up, MAKE SURE IT'S STABLE (use madrussians DIY guide). Take the rear wheels off and you'll see the ebrake adjustment. It's sort've like a turning-thingie that you can turn using a screw. Give it a couple of turns, get back into the car, pull the ebrake up slowly and count the number of clicks again. Repeat until you get around 7-9 clicks.

My stops at 7-9 clicks. Typically, on a steep hill, all I need is 3 clicks to stop the car. On a slight hill, 1 click.
