Tell me more about the chip you have in the car Roman. Also, you may want to check out GruppeM - it looks like they have an intake out for our cars.

In theory, you could use a spring with a lower rate with the coilovers and use the bump and rebound settings on the dual adjustable shocks to tune the ride. Dial them in harder for track use, and soften them up for street use. Ride height should be adjustable with the coilovers too, while with the springs it's fixed.

Having said that, I'm happy with the ride characteristics of the H&R springs (i.e.: the bump setting imparted by the springs isn't too harsh for street use - although this car is my weekend toy and is not a daily driver), and I'll know for sure if I like the handling characteristics after next week's autoX. My goal was to dial out body roll and drop the car some without hurting the ride characteristics of the car. I think the springs alone will achieve those goals. If so, then a set of single-adjustable shocks (i.e.: rebound only) will probably give me the ability to adequately tweak the handling to meet my needs. Higher on my personal list of desirable mods is a pair of camber plates.

KW V3 coilovers are on and they are fantastic. I had never considered KW in the past because I had not seen many M3 owners using them but they make a very high quality kit. I have had TCKline PSS9's and JIC all on my M3's in the past and so far this is my favorite kit. Street driving is just like stock except it absorbs bumps better and under pressure the KW's keeps the car very neutral and balanced. Installation was a breeze with no issues and the kit has all the adjustments you could want or need.

UUC EVO short shift kit installed today and all I can really say is WOW ! I was never really happy with the feel of the stock shifter and now I love it. It feels a bit weighted and has a very solid contact and engagement. You know exactly where you are and it no longer floats around between shifts or pops out when coming out of a gear but rather slides out.:dance::dance:

The Z4M coupe is a harder edge car that is lots of fun to toss around. The M3 was more of a compromise for daily driving. If I had to pick a daily driver I would go M3 if you want more of a sports car then the Z4M. This car definitely handles better then my M3 did. Just be ready to give up some comfort.

Is there really a noticable difference b/w the coupe and the roadster in terms of feel etc?

Also, did getting rid of the contis for the PS2's make a big difference?

What's the best way to do this? Can you just ask the dealer to throw on PS2's before you buy the car -- and let them suggest you throw them some $$?

The kind some asks...

My reasoning for asking that was if he is not going to track or compete in the car than why do the coilovers as they would be overkill, that's all nothing more nothing less..

Ok now back to the program ,,,, X350 did you notice a big variance in your speedo reading the MPH faster than it really is after you changed your wheels and tire size ?

I noticed it when I added the ZCP wheels with the standard 245/275 setup , and yes i know its common for BMW's to be off on the speedo from the factory ..

Probably because there aren't many suspension options.

Only options out there are:

- Eibach springs: For now only available in Germany. You can still get them through Eibach USA, but shipping alone is $300 USD. $600 for a set of springs? Nah.

- H&R springs: Their advertised 1" drop is more like 0.8" and ride pretty stiff. The drop isn't enough to make a visual difference.

- H&R coil-overs: Only height-adjustable. No adjustable rebound/compression setting. Ride pretty stiff. Basically a POS.

- KW V3's: Not the best for the track junkies, but a decent set of coilovers. Fairly good ride comfort. Wide range of height-adjustment.

- TCK DA's: When the OP purchased his KW V3's, the TCK coilovers for the Z4M were very problematic and were essentially recalled by TCK. It wasn't until October that the TCK released the problem-free version.

Not to mention that there's no aftermarket non-coilover struts/shocks for the Z4M to work with aftermarket springs. Stock struts/shocks don't match the H&R's very well.

Good overview GP BTW are your TCK's trouble free finally ?

Well, not completely. The front struts still make a deep thunking noise, but it's so much quieter than the clunking noises that the previous version of struts made. Luminor, toymerc, and I all noticed the same noise on our M's. I only notice the thunks in underground garages and don't hear them much while driving regularly so at least they don't bother me enough to get rid of them. Maybe that's even normal for the DA front struts.

The spring binding noises I was experiencing when turning the wheel either left or right, it turned out that the camber plate bearings were not rotating very smoothly. TCK re-assured me that the noises would go away after a few hundred miles, and indeed that was the case.

Had some clunks from the rear right but it was 100% due to install error. I didn't install the top and bottom RSM washers because the previous installer lost them for me. I ordered replacement metal washers, installed them, and the noises went away.

Overall, the kit is now working out nicely. At least I'm not losing any more brain cells trying to fix some problem. The ride is very comfortable, more comfortable than the stock suspensions and a lot more comfortable than the H&R springs.

Btw, I'm on the road driving my new M Coupe home. You can now get them in the low 40s, as dealers are really working to clear out the 2007s. Mine (black/black, ZPP, htd sts) was under $40k. Before I snagged this one, I had several dealers down to $43k.

Ironically, I was seriously interested in a TiAg car for that amount that was fully loaded (Nav, extended leather, alarm, the works) and the dealer wouldn't budge. Just before I left to get mine, I see he's posted it for $43.8k :shifty:

That sounds like it's around sticker price. Right now BMWNA is giving the dealers $7500 cash back as marketing support, and the MSRP has $4010 built-in, so any negotiating should start at ~$12k off MSRP. At this point, most dealers would jump at $43k-$45k, since on January 2nd they've lost any chance of making money off the deal.

The downside is that the people that were thinking about getting an M are discovering it's within reach, and those with the resources are snapping them up. Waiting for a killer deal might mean losing your shot at one, at least until next December.

Oh, and to answer Am1r's question: my car had a $55,520 sticker price; the TiAg car was soemthing like $58,320, but it was a demo with 3000 miles or so.

I'm curious to understand...wouldn't starting at $12k off mean that the dealer is already negative ~$500?

Additionally, can anyone provide the current lease numbers for 0 down 24mo/10k miles? What is current money factor and residual? What rates have you guys been quoted? I think it would be a great second car if its cheap enough

epbrown
Thu, Dec-13-2007, 02:23:23 AM
I'm curious to understand...wouldn't starting at $12k off mean that the dealer is already negative ~$500?

Sort of. There are other factors - the dealer may be getting more money from BMWNA for the amount of metal he's moving, and this sale wiill help that number and help with his allocation score (the number of hot selling models he'll get in the future, which he can sell over MSRP ala the 335i coupe this year, and likely the 135i in 2008)). He also rids himself of the associated expenses of having the car on the lot.

Also, if the car doesn't sell by January 2nd, BMWNA pulls the $7500 incentives and he's stuck trying to sell a 1-year old car at full MSRP while he's got 2008s on the lot, which isn't bloody likely. Typically, the dealer would dump those cars at auction, and that means a much bigger loss.

So taking a paper loss on the car upfront can save or even make him money in the long run.

Gotcha...that makes sense

Ok thanks to x350 went yesterday to my dealership and fell in love....came home yesterday and read as much as I could until late last night about the m coupe...only positive feedback everywhere! ...anyhow .Im back home today....WITH A BLACK ON BLACK coupe...yeah it is sitting on the garage next to my M3! ...MSRP 57,000 and I bought it for 46,000 with taxes and all roadside, etc about 50,000! Instead of reading about the car Im here at the forum...I need to update my sig!!lol!!!love thecar

Congrats on the car - they are great! Post some pics when you get a chance, I'll do the same.

I forgot to ask - what options did you get? Mine has premium package and heated seats. Sounds like you might have nav as well...

epbrown: why black on black? you kiddin me? cause it looks bad ass!!! and obviously we have the same taste!!haha! they had a silver and black and bronze on beige....the black just stood out....I had to take the options they had obviously since I did not order the car, has all the options except the navigation (im still pissed about it!) I hate you cannot install the navigation afterwards because they would need to replace the whole dashboard!! anyhowvwith extra's (road hazard, gap protection, license tags, profit to seller/dealer= around almost 6000 dollars)it reallly bumps up the prize and I still transferred my 1000 dollar deposit from the 08 M3 for a total of $49909.03 still an excellent total prize for an M coupe anyway you see it. Of course a lease may be a better option but I am leasing my M3 (first car I ever lease) and I wish I would have bought it instead since I do not write it off. In the M3 I pay 920 a month. In this new baby I am paying $1050 a month (no down payment because they were giving me pretty much nothing for my Z3 that I wanted to trade in, so I will have to sell that car in the next months to at least reduce the premium.) Anyhow mate, I am extending this forever, I am very satisfied after the purchase, an 08 would have cost much more and still I bought a brand new monster!! Ill post some pics when it stops raining here in florida. Happy to join this club and cant wait to finish break in period,:thumbsup2:

Just to add: AM1R: that is an excellent deal considering the sticker prize. My sticker prize was 57,000 and they didnt go as down as with your asking prize, I would take it in a heartbeat... with that sticker prize it must have navigation. Hope that helps:goodluck:

One other thing I forgot to mention Am1r: if you lease they may not discount you the money and give you MSRP. At least happened to me with the M3. I leased it on Jan 07 (being 06 of course and it was down from 61000 to 53000. But when I leased it they calculated it from 61000 ( I do not know if it was BS and they took advantage of me being naive) so be careful before you sign.

I was lucky with the break-in - I bought the car in NC and live in Chicago. I flew down and drove it home, with a sidetrip to KY to visit family. By the time I got home, I was at 1050 miles. This weekend if the weather's clear I'll finish up those last few miles, then take it in. :D

I agree about black - the car's stance and the black paint give it a crouching, aggressive stance that looks great. What I'd like to do, though, is have the seats and door inserts recovered in Cinnamon, like in the M3s. I think it would look great with Sapphire Black.

Ok so I passed on that deal because it was out of state, didn't want to wait, didnt want to pay shipping either....

I negotiated with a local dealer...so far I am at
MSRP=$57,320 (all options except the full leather)
Sell Price= $43,825
According to them the MF is .0027
residual 66%, 0 down 24 month.
We negotiated a payment of $506.92 all in. They are able to save me $2800 on taxes with tax credits, so I pay no tax. Overall it is a savings of about $3800. What do you guys think of this deal?

I read somewhere you swapped in new seats, I think...

Because I bought my car 900 miles from home, I didn't trade in my Z4 roadster. Once I sell that, I'm thinking of using the money for mods. Either that, or trade in my 325i and get an E60 530i (some nice deals on the CPO 2004s right now).

Wow, you guys are making me sick.

The OPs AW coupe is beautiful. I have wanted one of these since I saw my first picture of one. The deals you are talking about are such that I could probably trade my current M3 coupe, and be in an equivalent or better financial position overall on the car.

However, I have 4 kids, and the occasional need to carry 3 or more of them with me.

Sigh...

Just about every car sitting on the lot will have the Premium Package. Depending on the climate, they'll also have heated seats. A few have navigation.

As far as searching, I used Autotrader and was close to a deal on an Imola M Coupe with ZPP for $43k when a dealer posted an ad for my car for $37,988 on Zpost. You should be able to swing low-$40s from anyone, but they are going fast. I had leads on a black, red, and silver car last week - all 3 have since sold.

Nope, I'm not kidding. The ad is still visible in the classified forums in www.zpost.com (http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99964). It did have 154 miles on it, though.

Yep, the deals only apply to the 2007 models, as they're trying to clear them out. Most people are getting $7500 off invoice, which is ~$4000 off MSRP, so they're averaging ~$12,000 off MSRP total.

Worked a deal to the point of 13,319 off MSRP on one local to me, but unfortunately I have a relatively high mileage (65k) and lightly modded 2003 M3 that I would need to trade or sell outright, and the trade will not work at all on that due to the mileage and the mods.

So close, but yet so far, and my wife was even on board with it!

Well, hang in there - you might still catch a break. :) Two of the cars I looked at, the dealers flat-out refused my offers. Both called the next week looking to deal, but I was out of town picking up mine by then. Then again, by the time I returned their calls to let them know, both had sold.

One thing I don't like about this car is the size of the gas tank. I get about 12 mpg (mostly city driving) and the tank is like 13.5 gallons....On my m3, its relatively the same, but I guess having a much larger tank makes fill ups less frequent....I don't care about the mpg, I'm just lazy and hate filling up...

Otherwise, the m coupe makes my car feel like a boat....the funny thing is I caught a valet guy telling his friend in arabic ( i speak arabic) that out of all the cars he parks, lambos, ferraris, bentleys, the m coupe is his favorite car ever....definitely made me smile :). I bet he would **** his pants if he knew he could get one for $500/month haha

They only come in a 19" I think. You should also consider the new VS8 they are making they look great and I would love to see them on a Z4 M coupe. Let me know what you decide on doing I would love to see them on the car.

I'm very impressed by how clean the install looks. It's like OEM. Now, how fast do you get to 60 and 1/4 mile? :thumbsup2:

M3_Dust

I rode in it last week, it's really fast. The car just thrusts forward effortlessly and it's only running at ~85% of it's potential right now.

I'm sure the 0-60 and 1/4mi times would be most affected by the launch, and I'm not sure how easy the car is to launch efficiently, but on a perfect day with perfect launch I'm sure it is capable of doing 11.99 or better and probably trap at least 120.

current project is getting custom halos installed. The Z4 Headlight needs to be heated and taken apart to do this.

As a daily driver/track day warrior, several points were necessary to achieve my handling goals: a slightly lower center of gravity; fully adjustable shocks; OEM ride quality (or close to it), and more adjustability of alignment settings to improve the tires' cornering contact patch.

Any updates?

Here is our recent dyno on a Mustang dyno. Temps were around 100 deg and the car was pulling a little timming up top but the numbers turned out good. Next up im adding headers and going to dyno it again in some lower tems now that its about 70 deg here in AZ. Im also trying to score some BMW performance seats from a friend who GM's a dealership :goodluck:

wow, i am seriously impressed with your car... i'll be honest, i always thought the z4coupe was hideous. WAIT, keep reading... I can't believe how far a set of wheels and adjusting ride height takes the car. it looks absolutely amazing.

i just got my m3 a year ago, and i'm starting to wonder if it was the right choice!
