It's time to find a new owner for this wonderful car. Owned only since December 2006, I want to replace it with an even simpler daily driver. This car was consigned and PPI'ed @ European Motor Works in Arcadia, CA before I took ownership of it. All the major, usual gremlins (subframe, RTAB's, engine compression, etc.) checked out fine.
When shopping for the M3/4/5, there was quite a bit of choice, everything from low-mileage examples to higher-mileage, more affordable ones. The low-mileage ones cost more than I wanted to spend, the more affordable ones weren't in acceptable daily driving condition.
Surprisingly, this car contained the best combo of options in the best condition at a price point that I wanted. Most importantly, THIS CAR WAS AS STOCK AND AS UNTAINTED AS THEY COME-- NO HACKING WHATSOEVER.
Also, the Carfax came back clean for the VIN (WBSCD9322WEE08882).
Quick specs:
- 1998 Hellrot on Dove Gray
- 4-door, 5-speed manual
- 150,000 miles (I bought it w/ 146,000 miles on it)
- 18-button OBC
- Rear-fold down seats
- Sunroof
- Power sport seats
- OEM 6-CD changer
- Harman Kardon stereo system
- ASC
- Dual climate control
The good:
- No holes in seats, no tears, rips anywhere
- No significant wear spots anywhere in the interior (some on the seat bolsters), especially on the driver door handle and shift knob
- All electronics work
- HVAC works perfectly-- has been blowing cold, daily, during our anti-winter here in Southern California
- New Kumho ECSTA 711's installed in December, 2006
- Euro-spec front floating rotors
- Original body paint
The not-so-good (mostly minor stuff):
- Driver's seatback power mechanism is broken (the motor works, the nylon gearing is shot)
- Sunroof rattles, but it's an easy fix according to previous forum posts
- The radio display intermittently goes dim
- Generally speaking, the car's exterior is mostly very good. There is, however, a scratch on the bumper, and the hood has 1 quarter-sized dent and 1 thumb-sized possible clear-coat breach, and a couple of minor paint blemishes elsewhere.
- The Kumhos are the same size all around-- 225/45/17's. The seller had installed the tires *not* at EMW-- oh, well. It drives, and is very balanced and controlled in high-speed turns.
- The only service records I have on hand are my own. Unfortunately, I don't have any from previous owners.
- Although the wheels generally look fine, minor wheel rash does exist.
The engine revs smoothly and pulls hard for something with this many miles. E.g. no VANOS noises.
Also, in early 2007, the equivalent of an Inspection II was performed, along with the following items being replaced:
- valve cover gasket
- oil pan gasket
- complete fluid flush
- power steering hose
- trunk seal
- left rear door pocket
- instrument cluster backlight bulbs
- new Roundel emblems, front and back
- Front lower air grille (has a hole in it from freeway hazard)
- new foglights
I am also throwing in the following:
- New OEM sunshade
- New OEM noah car cover
... as I was planning on keeping the car long-term...
*Serious* offers only.
Located in the Southern California area, either San Gabriel Valley, South Bay, or OC, CA (home / work / 2nd home), I'm more than happy to show the car. Feel free to PM, or email me at 1998m3forsale@gmail.com for questions.
