i'd recommend 20% all the way around. that looks reallllllllly good and you can still see at night through the windows

He didn't do my M3, but the guy that did had trouble with the rear window. Uneven around the "dots." I'm sure you know what I mean if you have an M3.

Need to get my new car done and would like a really nice job. What is Huper optic and does he deal with the dots on the rear window?

matt suggests that the vinyl route for dealing with the dot matrix

huper optic is a ceramic tint

I thought tinting percentages was counterintuitive. "20%" would allow only 20 percent light transmission and would thus be very dark.

For example, in VA the law permits 50% max on the fronts and 35% max on the backs and rear window. Since the law promotes better visibility for police, I'd think 50% is obviously lighter.

Any help? Trying to decide what to get soon and don't want to screw it up.

20% is dark.. I have 20% and with the factory tint of ~7% mine registered 11% on the troopers tint checker

I had LA Tint in Manassas do mine.

I went with 50% all around since I wanted an even look and didn't want to have to worry about a ticket.

Fast- do you have a pic of your car- Im actually debating between 35 and 20 all around, but think 20 may be too dark..

Ya, I know this is a tint thread, but what do you do with the front license plate? Mine's sitting on the passenger floor board right now.

As for tint, will be getting 35 front, 20 around the rest this week. I'll post up some pics by the weekend.

Quality Tire has a tint shop off of Rt. 1 in Woodbridge called The Tint Shoppe. Call Quality Tire @ 703-491-9005 and ask for either Brian Inge or Jeff Inge( Preferably Brian). I have known these guys literally my whole life and they are top notch. These two fella's are the co-owners of the place. They will take care of you.

Just had Matt do mine last Thursday. Not only did he do an excellent job, you also get to hang around Martin Motor Sports... He's got a nice 06 ZCP to oogle at. Charge was $160.

Hey guys, just made an appointment with Matt to do my tinting next week. Out of curiousity, is the huber optic the best type of tint to get? Do know much about tinting.

I my view Huber Optic is the best tint ( for me) and well worth the additional bucks. It doesn't screw with radio / nav reception, and reject UV and IR radiation much better than other tints.

I didn't go very dark. Mine's legal in VA. My A/C just cruises along in 90+ degree weather like it's 70 degrees outside.

Love it. EVERY car I'm owned in the last 20 years has been tinted. I've tried nearly every available product. I like this the best.

Caution: Not the easiest to install so pick a good shop.

Well, I hear Huber Optic tint is very expensive...I hear Matt charges near $400 for just the tint itself. If that is the case, what kind of tint does he put on the M's if he only charges $160?

Well you asked if HO is the best. It is as far as I'm concerned. You get what you pay for.

If you're saying the install for HO is an additional fee you'd be wrong. I paid $400 to have a 650 done. A 3 series couldn't be any harder. You have an M3. Tinting the windows once in the life of the car and you're worrying about $240.00 (max) more??? I can assure you of one thing. You will lose your AM radio reception on an M3 with a metallic tinted rear window. I also felt my FM reception wasn't as good, but can't honestly say that for a fact.

I don't remember what basic film he uses. I think Sun Guard or Solar Guard. I do know he thinks 3M film is junk. I overheard him tellling that to another customer.

So what's the going rate for the installation of Huper Optik?

mcheng
Wed, Aug-09-2006, 02:59:18 PM
I got it done this past weekend and the going rate around the Chicago area is at $350. Not too many installers around here, just 1 in this whole area. I have to say it does make the car look more fluid. Also the heat rejection is great, keeps the car warm not hot in a 90 degree sunny day.
